After watching Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson starring together in their new movie, "Fool's Gold," I was quite disappointed. Although it was a decent movie, it was not nearly as good as I had expected. It was highly advertised as funny, but the only funny parts were those already shown in the previews. The previews only showed clips with Hudson and McConaughey's characters, Tess and Ben. In the movie, however, there were several other important characters, and some of them played cheesy roles. In an attempt to be funny, they had Alexis Dziena play a young girl with a rich father who lacked all common sense. Rather than it being funny, though, it was simply annoying and incredibly fake.
The plot for the movie was classis: racing someone in a hunt for hidden treasure. Although, they did add some interesting twists to the plot which gave the movie a bit of excitement. They also had a few suspenseful and unexpected scenes, mostly at the end, which kept the audience interested. Even though the plot has been done before, they were able to make it unique so you could never really predict what would happen. The ending is a typical happy ending, but it is deceiving in many ways so you think it won't be.
Overall it was a decent movie, but not what I would have expected from such well known actors with many previous successes. Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey have both made great names for themselves by starring in several excellent films. Of those includes another movie they co-starred, "How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days," which was a major success and absolutely hilarious. So when seeing previews for "Fool's Gold," which appears to be a comedy, it is assumed that it will be as good and funny as Hudson and McConaughey's former movie. Unfortunately, it was not; therefore, I left the theater disappointed.
This review is not meant to bash the movie, only to make known the movie is not what is seems. For the most part I enjoyed watching it; it just was not what I expected to see. It was an interesting idea for a movie, but it had a few flaws which brought its overall performance level down. If my expectations were not so high based on the previews and the staring actors I think I would have enjoyed it a little more. I do recommend seeing "Fool's Gold," just be aware it's not as great as the previews make it out to be.
